Salvation Mountain

Hello

Long time no see. I have been so busy throughout the summer with a job and exams that I just didn't have the time nor strength to update my blog and instagram.

Now it's fall.

A lot of my important exams are coming up. I decided to take an impromptu trip to Salvation Mountain.

 Yes.

It is bad timing but um yolo???

I went with my friend who was very kind to drive and take pictures of me under the sizzling sun. You the MVP.

The Location

I was very interested in Salvation Mountain ever since it was shown in the movie Into the Wild. In the movie, I enjoyed how the creator Leonard Knight described his philosophy and the dedication that went into the place. Sadly Knight passed away in 2014. I wish I had the chance to meet him. Thankfully, there are organizations that are doing what they can do have it in good condition.

I found it endearing how Leonard Knight created his own colorful world to show his belief and his love for God.  He was very dedicated and one of a kind.

"Everytime there's a crack. Guess what? I'll put a flower in it."

- Leonard Knight

Wish we can just fix all of our cracks with a flower.

It was such an amazing place because I never seen so many bright beautiful colors. It looked like something out of a Dr. Seuss book.  I was actually surprised that it wasn't as big as I thought it would be.

I normally don't wear a lot of color because I just don't feel comfortable. Salvation Mountain is a pretty colorful place so I didn't wanted to be a black hole. I wore my pink geometric romper that was just chillin in my closet. I think it sort of match the artwork of the place. Also I wore my black boots because I thought there would be a little bit of hiking.

ETC.

Other places near Salvation Mountain.

I would recommend this place for those who loves taking pictures or wants to go somewhere new. If you are going out of your way to just visit this place errrrr I would hope that you plan something extra to do in Palm Springs.

THANK YOU for reading. Always

Bill Cunningham

One of my favorite photographers Bill Cunningham passed away. He was a fashion photographer for The Times.  Over the years, he has taken pictures of NYC street styles and models on the runway. His trademark is his French blue workman jacket and his Nikon camera. My young teenage self declared loyalty to Nikon cause of him. Hehe.

“Money’s the cheapest thing. Liberty and freedom is the most expensive”

I truly admired his dedication to the fashion industry and his talented ability to capture trends through his 35mm lens. I respected him for spending his life doing what he loved.

You guys should watch the documentary Bill Cunningham New York on Netflix.  It shows how humble and passionate he was.  Also you can see why he always sport the blue jacket and its origin.

In the documentary, I love how his apartment has no kitchen but is filled with file cabinets full of his negatives.  He was awarded with prestigious awards, famous people wanted to take pictures with him but he always thought it was nonsense that he was the subject. He just wants to capture the moments. It was always a wish of mine to meet him and take a picture of him.

Below I created a set based on him.

Coachella Essentials

These are the list of items I will be bringing to Coachella. It does seem excessive but better safe than sorry.

Beauty

3. Lip Balm: This would protect my lips from being dry and would soften my lips.
4. Sun Screen: Sunscreen is very crucial and should be in your daily regimen beauty routine. I don't want to turn into a red lobster the next day.
6. Hand Sanitizer: I am obsess with hand sanitizers; need it to disinfect my hands.
10. Cleansing Wipes: To wipe off any dirt or to wipe away the smudge my mascara would leave off.
12. Face Mist: This cutie patootie item would moisten my face throughout the day.

Fashion

8. Shoes: I am going to wear comfortable closed shoes so I can dance and walk all day.
9. Scarf : I heard from some people that there are always sandstorms and it gets into their mouth and eyes. What's a better way to cover your face with a cute scarf.
11. Sunglasses: I need it to protect my eyes from the sun and plus it's a great accessorize to enhance my outfit.
14. Backpack: I am going to wear my mini backpack to store all my items. It is just so comfortable to wear and I won't feel a thing.

Tech

1. Portable Charger: I will be taking pictures, snapchatting, and etc. To keep my phone alive throughout the day, this is a must have item.
7. Digital Camera: Can't leave everything to my phone to take pictures. Going to use this camera to capture Kodak moments~

Other

2. Small Card Holder: Rather than bringing a huge wallet, I would take this small card holder to store my cash. I want my backpack to feel light as a feather so this item is perfect.
5. Water Bottle: I would be using my Polyvore water canteen that I luckily won earlier this year. Water is the most important item to have because I gotta stay hydrate to keep up with all the events. The weather would be scorching hot so you have to stay safe with H2O.
13. Band-Aid: I am kind of clumsy so I bring these just cause.

I hope that you guys enjoy reading this. I still can't believe I get to go. I have planned what outfits I will be wearing. It would of been nice to go on a huge shopping spree but I have to stay realistic. I bought an outfit where I can wear it again on the weekends. Also I am gonna work with what I have in my closet. Sorry to disappoint you guys with my boring looks. AHHHH I am so excited. Okay. Bye.

Polyvore Community Correspondent / / Yellowgrapes is going to Coachella!!!

Coachella Fashion Trend Part 2: Colors & Bold Prints

Coachella Fashion Trend Part 3: Matching Sets

Hello Everyone

I am so happy to announce that I will be attending Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival as a community correspondent for Polyvore. Thank you so much Polyvore for choosing me. I am excited, flabbergasted, and overjoyed. Going to Coachella has been in my bucket list because it's just a place to see all your favorite bands and to see all the cool and crazy fashion. It's also sort of the modern day Woodstock for our generation. I am also anxious and nervous because I wanna do an excellent job of reporting back to the community. I don't want to disappoint anyone, I will try my best to keep updating throughout the day but I heard that the service doesn't work well there due to the high influx of people.

What does a community correspondent do?  I would be your eyes and ears for the event and report back the fashion trends, beauty trends, and etc through all my social media. I think I will be overly excited that it would get messy. So bear with me.

Oh snaps. I have a very important exam of the following week after Coachella so I would be offline for a little bit and after Coachella. Wish me luck. I am trying to get all my studying done but it's so hard when there's so much planning to do.

You can see what I would be doing at Coachella through the links below starting April 15-17.

An Update and Advice

Hello Everyone

It has been a long while. I am currently drafting, revising, and writing new materials for my blog. I know that I always say oh I will post soon or life has been busy. Yeah I have to stop making excuses. Life has been kicking me in the butt but you just gotta brush it off and get up. I was feeling lost for awhile as to what I wanted to do for the future as in what I truly want and not what the 20s in me was telling me. I am happy that I found my true passion and I won't have any regrets.

For those of you lost just think about how there's an equilibrium. This is an advice for those who can't leave their current situation or just can't go to an industry that they wish to pursue due to salary issues or just can't. My friend knows a guy who has this mind numbing job. He just checks things off a list but it pays really well. She asked him why does he do this job, if he's so bored out of his mind. He replied with I get to go kayaking every weekend with the money I make. He loves kayaking so much that he doesn't mind having this job. He said the job gives him the means and the time to do what he loves. What I am trying to convey is that if you do not like your job then use your passion to find a way around your job. Find something in your job that you don't mind doing and it can be a compromise.  Or you can just quit your job and actually go into the industry you want to do. It all depends on you. You have to make the best of everything and you can't just sit and hope it would get better if you don't change your mind set or situation.

I hope that my advice make sense or it got through anyone.

Also I have exciting news to announce in a week or so. Stay tune!!!
